# User guide ## Getting started Grant the permissions the app asks for at launch: **physical activity** for counting steps, **location** for drawing routes, and **notifications** for background tracking. Without the activity permission the step sensor tells the app nothing — Android raises no error for this, so the step count would simply stay at zero. **Turn off battery optimisation** in the settings. Without that the system may cut tracking off mid-day. ## Steps Steps come from the phone's own step sensor, not from the app's own counting. The sensor keeps counting while the app is closed, and the reading is picked up on the next launch — so no steps are lost. The ring on the home screen shows today's step count and your progress towards the daily goal. Tapping it opens the day in detail: the route on the map, the sessions and the profiles. ## Goals and streaks - **Daily goal** is set in the settings. The default is 10,000 steps. - **Weekly goal** defaults to the daily goal × 7 and can be set to your own value. - **Goal streak** shows how many days in a row you have reached the daily goal. A day in progress never breaks the streak: it continues as soon as today's goal is met. - **Goal days** show how many days of the current week reached the goal. That tells you about consistency, which a weekly total alone hides. When a daily or weekly goal is met, the app celebrates it once. ## Routes Route recording is **continuous**: your route is drawn automatically as you move, with no trip to start. Location wakes up only once movement is detected and quiets down while you are still, so the battery is not drained for nothing. - **Today's route** is in the day view on the History tab, coloured by activity type. - **A saved route** opens on the map coloured by speed. The speed and altitude profile can be scrubbed with a finger, and the selected spot is highlighted on the map. - **GPX export**: the save icon in the route view exports the route as a GPX file that opens in Strava, Komoot or Garmin, for example. Maps also work without a network for the parts you have viewed before: tiles you have seen are kept on the phone. ## Activity recognition The app decides the activity type (walking, running, cycling, vehicle) per trip, not from individual moments. That is why stopping at traffic lights does not split a drive, and one hill does not turn a walk into a bike ride. If the recognition looks wrong, check **Step sensor status** in the settings. It shows exactly what the sensor is reporting and when it last did. ## Health - **Heart rate** is measured with the camera and flash: place a fingertip on the lens and hold still. The measurement needs a steady grip; movement and poor contact prevent it. - **Blood pressure** is entered by you. The app shows an indicative classification and keeps track of morning and evening readings. - **Monitoring schedule**: a 3–14 day period repeats at the interval you choose, and the app reminds you of every measurement in it. - **PDF report**: the PDF icon in the blood pressure view produces a report for your doctor with the period's morning and evening averages, the extremes, and every reading in a table. - **Weight** is entered by you. Chart, change over 7 and 30 days, and body mass index. The measurements are indicative and do not replace assessment by a healthcare professional. ## Home screen widget Add the widget the usual way: long-press the home screen background, choose widgets and find Pedometer. The widget shows today's steps and your progress towards the goal, and tapping it opens the app. The widget calculates nothing itself, so it uses no battery. If background tracking is stopped, the numbers update only when you open the app. ## Health Connect In the settings you can turn on the export to Health Connect, making steps, weight, heart rate and blood pressure available to your other health apps. Your own steps always come from the phone's step sensor. As a separate choice, the app can also **read steps** from Health Connect, for example from a watch for the times your phone was not with you. The day's count shows the largest single source rather than the sum of all of them, because a watch and a phone measure the same walk. Export and import are both off by default. Permissions can be revoked at any time in Health Connect. ## Backup In the settings you can export steps, routes, weights, heart rates and blood pressures into a single file and choose where it goes. Import either fills in what is missing or replaces everything — handy when you switch phones. ## If something does not work - **Steps are not accumulating:** check the physical activity permission and look at Step sensor status in the settings. - **The route stays empty:** check the location permission and that location is enabled in your phone's settings. - **Tracking stops:** turn off battery optimisation in the app's settings. - **The map does not load:** the map needs a network connection the first time you view an area. ## Contact info@mobileapps.fi
